********* INTERVIEW *********
United By Books is pleased to have Mary Abshire on the blog today so we can learn more about her amazing books........

1 ~ Can you please share with us a little about yourself?

I live in paranormal suburbia and my neighbor is a smoking hot werewolf.
Okay, maybe that's not completely true. I live in a suburb of Indianapolis and maintain a full time job like most people. It's not a challenging job, so I let my imagination run wild. During weekends, I create stories to share with readers. I drink a ton of water and chew a lot of gum. Just ask my daughter and any friend.

2 ~  Please tell us a little about your newest release ?

Gladly. Welcome to the Neighborhood is my new paranormal romance. It's set in modern times and involves a female vampire moving into paranormal suburbia. She's a very independent woman and has a low opinion of men since she's been used and hurt by one before. Well, she moves into her new house in suburbia and everything goes wrong. Here werewolf neighbor wants to help her. He's a real gentleman and unlike any man my protagonist has met. Since my protagonist is stubborn, he has to work hard to gain her trust. She has a lot of struggles to deal with but he's determined to assist her. Without giving too much away, the book is romance and mystery in paranormal suburbia.

3~  Would you like to share an excerpt with us today?

“I want to thank you for what you did last night. I returned your items and met your roommate.” Alexi pressed her lips together and shifted her weight on one foot, hoping to ease the pain crawling up her leg. Damn the shoes.
“Yes, Corey informed me.” He glanced at the bar. “Would you like a drink? Or, do you drink?”
“I don’t drink much. My body absorbs any liquid content quickly, so alcohol has a strong effect.”
“Really? Does that happen to all vampires?”
“Yes, some like to drink much like humans do because of the effect. For me, a drink every now then is all I can handle. And right now I could use a glass of wine.” The liquor would take her mind off the needle like pain shooting up her toes and spreading into her ankles and calves.
“Please…” Greg extended his arm. “Let me get one for you.”
Alexi headed for the bar with the pain in her feet getting worse by the second. She really needed to get rid of the shoes. Finding a spot at the opposite end, she set her purse on the counter and leaned forward. A robust middle-aged man wearing a green polo shirt stood behind the bar.
After he served drinks to another customer, he stepped toward Alexi.
“A glass of wine and a beer, please,” Greg said.
“White? Red?” the bartender asked.
“Red, please,” Alexi answered. She always preferred red, and the sweeter, the better.
She turned her gaze to Greg as the bartender fixed their drinks.
“So, you don’t drink much,” he said. “What about food?”
“No, I don’t eat food. I tried it once a long time ago when I was still a young vamp. It tasted good, but my body rejected it.”
“Don’t feel bad. My body rejects food on occasion too,” Greg said, and she grinned. A sense of humor was always a plus for a man.

4~ What's in store next for your readers?

I have an urban fantasy book coming out in November called Immortal Revenge. I'm very excited about it and can't wait to write the next one in the Legacy series.

5~ What's the weirdest thing you've ever done in the name of research?

I do most of my research online. I did go to an art museum once for research. Oh, and I contacted a friend who is a retired detective to inquire with him about a special bullet. For locations in my stories, I tend to use places I've been to or that I'm familiar with. If I don't know the area, I use google to gather information. I considered visiting Mishawaka, Indiana, the town where Immortal Revenge takes place. But I'm not sure when I'd find the time.Honestly, I don't have anything weird to report. Yet.

6~ What are some of your favorite kinds of stories to read?

Paranormal romance and urban fantasy. I really enjoy the latter. And I enjoy characters that are quirky and have a sense of humor.

7~ What is something people would be surprised to know about you?

Most people are surprised by my agePeople tell me that I don't look old enough to have a daughter who will be 18 soon.

8~  Do you sing and dance around the house while picking up?

No singing and dancing. I only sing in the car these days.

9~ Describe yourself in three words?

Quiet. Tease. Patient.

10~ What is the most embarrassing thing you got caught doing?

I was in 7th or 8th grade and got suspended for writing a dirty note to a boy. Did I mention I went to a religious school? Yeah, I was probably the first female to get suspended. That's embarrassing and to think parents read that note. LOL. I won't forget that moment in my life.

11~ How did you celebrate the sale of your first book?

Honestly, I didn't celebrate. My first book, Claiming the Evil Dead, was set for release after Christmas. I didn't have the funds to celebrate, or the time. Looking back, I wish I'd never went with that publisher, Noble Romance. I was editing on Christmas and the whole process seemed rushed to make the pub date. Because of the holiday, I didn't have the time or means to celebrate.

12~ What are the scenes that are the hardest for you to write?

Backstory is difficult for me to write. I get carried away instead of getting to the point. At least, I think I do. Dialog is easy. Action is easy. I thought sex scenes might be difficult, but they're not unless 3 or more people are involved. Yeah, that takes me a while to write.

13~ Is there anything special you would like to say to your readers while we have you here today?

Thank you for stopping by and please, please, please read my books. LOL. Just kidding. No, not really. Okay, maybe.
Seriously, thanks for checking out this interview. I wish you the best!
